ChatGPT is a very good general assistant. Give it a blank page and it will draft an email, summarise a long thread, rewrite a clunky paragraph, or talk an idea through with you. It is quick, it is cheap, and for a lot of owners it was the first tool that made AI feel useful. None of that is in question here. The reason was not weak models. It was that generic tools never learned the business's actual workflow. The same research found that setups bought from specialists succeeded about 67% of the time. When ChatGPT is all you need
Plenty of owners do not need more than a subscription, and I will say so. If your admin is light, if you are happy pasting in context as you go, or if you mostly want a thinking partner and a faster way to draft, ChatGPT on its own is a sensible place to stay. The case for a custom setup only holds when repeatable admin is genuinely eating your week and you want it handled, not just drafted.
